I started to wonder why the congressman who represents Potter Valley isn't doing more to help, but then I looked up who that is. What a disaster.

ARGHGHG.... I can hardly read these things. What on earth is wrong with people that they want to destroy farmers??? Do they seriously think the world can live off lab grown food? If they are going to cut off farmers' water supplies, then we should cut off their food supply. That would solve a lot.

Farmers have been run out of CA and where did they go? To AZ - Kingman. So what is happening there? Water problems and water wars soon to come. 200 wells were drilled north of Kingman, it's now full of nut trees, which aren't even at their adult peak of water use and the city is feeling the pinch. They have no idea where they will get water in 10 yrs.

What can we do to help, be it money or phone calls? This is so aggravating!!!!

Well, one area of concern that leaves the irrigation issue for a moment is the fully avoided cost of a kilowatt of electricity when the dam is removed at tax and rate payer expense. This should be a clarion call for the Department of Energy to use as analysis regarding dam removal and further wind and solar projects without the PTC/ITC and Tax Equity credits that have supported those two intermittent renewable resources. Once it is clear that PG&E’s removal of the dams will result in higher electric power rates then a lot of things can happen. As strategy, PG&E says it is tired of the expenses and time required to fight the environmental lawsuits. (In an industry that 50% engineers and 50% lawyers who are paid for by the rate payer, one would think they would be happy to defend themselves from now until the last of Potterville Dam cows come home.) But, since they have no stomach or the lawyers with any ability then perhaps the 600,000 residents of the area about to be devastated, should make PG&E an offer. Pay us to take the dams off your hands, we will use the fully avoided cost of a forward priced rate, say 50 years out, based on your stated rate base and presto chango, we will own the dams. Further, PG&E can pay the new Potterville Electric Utility Cooperative for the transmission and distribution system in the this specific service territory. The new Coop, can take on the responsibility of the dams and the lawsuits and the environmental protests and so forth. Part of the Coop project would be a trade school, in which linemen and other related electrical services are trained in the management and maintenance of the wires, poles, dams, impoundments, and other appurtenant structures and facilities. (That school will be jammed with eager people who want to own and maintain their electrical service territory.) There are two things that go hand in hand with dam removal. The dam removal types are very small in number, no one cares about salmon restoration, if they did these two dams would have been gone in the 1960’s when there were still salmon in the lower reaches of the river system. But this cohort is vocally very loud and extremely well financed and organized. They hate the community and want to kill it, just without any weapons of mass destruction. The second, is that lawyers at ANY regulated utility and hear this well, are liars, it is part of the interview process for a job as an attorney at a regulated utility. The definition of a New York Minute is the time it takes a regulated utility lawyer to begin abrogating the power purchase agreement, or for that matter any contract with the utility he or she just signed with you. The ink never dries with them. There are no nice people or honest people in the administration side of a regulated utility and PG&E has demonstrated time and time and time again that they are the worst of the worst. No one is coming to save you, it’s a fight worth fighting. Mash down on the accelerator and don’t let PG&E and their surrogate Gavin Newsome breathe, this issue will be kryptonite for any politician who wishes to run for the highest office in the land. It may play well on Nob Hill, but it doesn’t play well in fly over country and that is where the elections are being won these days. John and Bobby Kennedy were taught by their Maternal Grandfather “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald many things about politics, but the most important lesson was to know how to count. One would guess the current Governor of California missed counting class in grade school. Make this issue stick and watch as he has to back track on the matter at hand. Good luck!!
