One can hope that part of the investigation the Mr & Mrs are under also includes how this tragedy was allowed to happen and that the Trump admin can fix it ASAP for the Point Reyes farmers, the surviving community and those of us who understand the importance of ranchers to our survival. Important reporting. Even though I live in SoCA I have been following this story closely since you and Chris Bray started reporting on it.
I come to NoCA twice a year and I always go out to Point Reyes on practically every trip. It’s so sad and a huge crime as to how those ranchers were forced off the NPS grazing lands.
It sounds like The Nature Conservancy isn’t being such a ‘good steward’ of the land, either. Nothing like the ranchers who grazed that land for so many years. 🤔😒
dismal, depressing story. the farms at Point Reyes were an idyllic model of people farming in harmony with nature. so of course the Nature Conservancy buys them out and destroys a whole way of life as well as a generations-old legacy. but with plans for a new generation of farmers, if i understand correctly? WTF??? i used to admire the Nature Conservancy; not any more. and isn't it typical that Newsome and his wife are poised in the web like the spiders they are?
Nature Conservatory is absolute trash. They will let the area get overgrown and there will be fires.

Unelected and unaccountable entities ceaselessly pace across our lands, smothering communities, families, and hope at whim.

Why should different independent producers be allowed to take the leases? Why not return them to the families? Or, are they expected to reapply?
